For the India Test series, Jacob Oram has been named the bowling coach for New Zealand.
Prior to the demanding three-Test away series against India, a highly anticipated match in the current World Test Championship cycle, New Zealand has appointed former pacer Jacob Oram as their bowling coach. The formidable right-arm pacer, who will assume leadership on October 7, has competed in three World Cups for cricket and four for Twenty20 cricket, and he offers a plenty of experience to the Gary Stead-coached Blackcaps.
The series opener between New Zealand and India is scheduled for October 16–20 in Bengaluru. Test matches against India will thereafter take place in Pune (October 24-28) and Mumbai (November 1–5).
During the most recent T20 World Cup in the Americas, Oram, 46, coached the Blackcaps' bowling unit. In 2022, he played a similar job with the women's team of New Zealand during the World Cup held on home soil.
"After serving as bowling coach for the team during the previous year's Test tour to Bangladesh, the home T20I series against Australia in February, and the recent ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, the 229-capped international officially joins the Blackcaps staff," a statement from New Zealand Cricket read.
Now ranked third with 50 percentage points behind leaders India and Australia, New Zealand has a good opportunity of making it to the World Test Championship final for the second time in three editions.
During his 11-year international career, Oram has played 33 Tests, 160 ODIs, 36 T20Is, and more. "To be back involved with a team that means so much to me and has been a big part of my life is a real honor," Oram said.
"I'm thrilled to carry on that effort in the upcoming seasons. The recent opportunities I've had have given me a wonderful understanding of where this squad is heading.
"I hope to share my knowledge and experience to help best prepare the new wave of talent coming through the Blackcaps bowling ranks for the challenges of international cricket." Oram will put his years of experience to use during this critical stage, according to head coach Stead.
