Shakib Al Hasan, the star all-around player for Bangladesh, gave tribute to Mustafizur "Fizz" Rahman and Rishad Hossain for their bowling efforts in the Tigers' 25-run victory over the Netherlands on Thursday, which moved them one step closer to the T20 World Cup second round.
Shakib, an experienced all-rounder, hit an undefeated 64 at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown to win Player of the Match, but he saved all the accolades for the bowlers for the post-match celebration.
As Bangladesh made 159 for five in their 20 overs, the 37-year-old former skipper Shakib recorded his 13th fifty in the format, which was plenty for a strong Bangladesh bowling attack to withstand.
"Having a player from the top four bat the entire innings was crucial. I'm glad to help. At first, the pitch was challenging, so we kept our composure. Shakib, who became the ninth batter in the competition to reach 800 runs alongside the likes of Chris Gayle, Mahela Jayawardene, and Virat Kohli, stated, "It was a challenging total, not a winning one, but bowlers chipped in perfectly."
Leg-spinner Rishad delivered a twin blow in the 15th over to shift the balance of power in favor of the Tigers, even though the Dutch were in a respectable 111-3 position after replying. With 3-33 from his four overs, Rishad continued to be the best bowler for Bangladesh, and Mustafizur delivered an economical masterclass. bowling an astounding 17 dot deliveries to achieve 4-0-12-1 statistics.
"Netherlands lost it to Rishad and Fizz. In the previous four to five years, very few international games were played here. We had to hold wickets till 14–15 overs and then proceed since we had no idea what a good score was," he said.
"In a World Cup match, 160 is never easy. With 10 runs per over on this field, the Netherlands had their moments.
