With a huge performance, Jayden Daniels helps the Washington Commanders beat the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Cincinnati Bengals' 2024 campaign started with a 0-3 record after suffering a stunning 38-33 upset loss to the Washington Commanders.

The Bengals went into their home game against the Commanders in Week 3 with high expectations, having struggled defensively in their season-opening losses to the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rather, Cincinnati's defense let them down. Throughout their game, the Bengals were unable to thwart the Jayden Daniels-led Washington attack, which amassed 356 yards and scored touchdowns on each of their three red-zone possessions.
Daniels finished the day with three touchdowns overall compared to two incomplete passes. In addition to leading Washington in rushing yards (39) and throwing yards (254) he also completed 91 percent of his passes.

Throughout the Monday night game, Joe Burrow and the Bengals were very successful at moving the ball. They were only 2-for-4 in the red zone, which shows that they were not as effective. In addition, Evan McPherson's early missed field goal put the Bengals behind and they were unable to catch up.

Together, the offenses of Cincinnati and Washington accomplished something that hasn't happened in the NFL since 1940: no team turned the ball over nor punted during the game.
Thus, in advance of Week 4, both teams must start over defensively even though they have much to be happy about on offense.

Bengals drop to 0-3 after upset loss to Commanders

The Bengals could not recover an onside kick at the end of regulation, icing their game against the Commanders and marking Cincinnati's third consecutive loss to begin the season.

Washington dominated Cincinnati throughout the contest, scoring on six of its eight drives, with the only two exceptions being kneel-downs at the end of each half. Jayden Daniels set a rookie record by completing 91 percent of his passes and was the driving force in the Commanders' second consecutive victory.

Joe Burrow and the Bengals offense also performed well, but they have nothing to show for it. They head into their Week 4 matchup with the Carolina Panthers even more desperate to get their first win of the season.

Bengals trail 38-33 late in the game despite a 1-yard touchdown run by Zack Moss.

After the Bengals were placed on the 1-yard line due to a pass interference call, Moss scored his first touchdown of the contest.

With forty seconds left in regulation, the Bengals trimmed the Commanders' lead to 38-33 with an extra point kick. For Cincinnati to survive against Washington, they will need to recover an onside kick.
Commanders lead 38–26 after Jayden Daniels connects Terry McLaurin for a 27-yard touchdown.
On third-and-seven, the Commanders struggled to line up, but Jayden Daniels saw Terry McLaurin win easily beyond the sticks in one-on-one coverage. For the score, McLaurin brought down a flawless deep pass from the rookie quarterback to his best wide receiver.

With 2:10 remaining, Austin Seibert scored the extra point to give the Bengals a 12-point lead and officially make it a two-touchdown game.

A false start penalty and a sack by Trey Hendrickson put Washington on a second-and-21, giving the Bengals seemingly a great chance to force the Commanders off the field.

Rather, the Commanders set up a fourth-and-four by passing the screen to Dyami Brown back-to-back. Dan Quinn decided to go for it instead of trying a 56-yard field goal or punting. Jayden Daniels connected with tight end Zach Ertz for a first down that extended the drive, good for nine yards.
