In their T20 World Cup loss to India on Wednesday, the United States became the first side to be penalized five runs under the new stop-clock rules; yet, coach Stuart Law stated that it "did not affect the outcome of the game."
The International Cricket Council (ICC) instituted the sanction in an attempt to expedite play.
If, despite two warnings, a team continues to wait more than a minute between overs, they will be penalized.

In order to meet their 111-run mark on Wednesday, India had to score 30 runs off 30 deliveries after the US was penalized at the beginning of the 16th over.
Former Australian international Law remarked, "We do talk about it to get through the overs faster, and we had a few warnings in earlier games."

We're still a young squad. There's a lot to discover. The game of cricket involves more than simply the cricket element; other nuances also need to be ingrained. This is a relatively new rule.

"A lot of our players wouldn't have heard about it before we played in the Bangladesh series or the Canada series earlier this year."Law stated that the five-run penalty would not have affected the result of the Group A match, even with the penalty.

With ten balls remaining and a seven-wicket victory, India advanced to the second round of the Super Eights.

"Five runs wasn't going to affect the outcome of the game," said Law.

"The players know the rule, but it's something that if you haven't played with it for a long time, it's very difficult to have it embedded in your brain."
Law stated that if the new rule expedites play, he has no problems with it."The play must have a certain speed. It is excessive, in my opinion, to extend games that are meant to last three and a half hours to four and a half hours.
"I view it as a positive thing rather than a negative one. The game keeps going. When you get the upper hand, you should maintain it more quickly and apply pressure to the adversary."
In their last group match against Ireland on Friday, the United States may still go to the next round if they win or even if there is no outcome.
