Bangladesh made a winning start in the 2017 T20 World Cup as the Tigers defeated Sri Lanka by two wickets in their Group D match at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas today, thanks to an outstanding bowling performance and an explosive knock from Towhid Hridoy.

Bangladesh crossed the finish line in 19 overs when Hridoy slammed a 20-ball 40 and Liton Das played a smart 38-ball 36-run innings after Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain each collected three wickets to limit Sri Lanka to 124 for nine.
But as Bangladesh collapsed from 99 for 4 to 113 for 8 in 17.4 overs, losing four wickets for just 14 runs, things became a little nerve-wracking towards the end. Shakib Al Hasan was caught at third man by pacer Matheesha Pathirana, and in the 18th over, Nuwan Thushara removed Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain in consecutive deliveries.
Mahmudullah Riyad hit Dasun Shanaka for a maximum in the opening delivery of the last over, allowing Bangladesh to survive and get within five runs of the mark. For the first time since beating the West Indies six wickets in their inaugural T20 World Cup match in 2007, Bangladesh defeated a Test-playing country. The Tigers crossed the finish line when Mahmudullah raced hard for a double in the last delivery of the 19th over.

Bangladesh faltered early in the chase today as well, losing their two openers in the first two overs, Tanzid Tamim (3 off 6) and Soumya Sarkar (0 off 2). Because he could only manage seven off, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto also extended his lean patch.
Bangladesh overcame its early deficit thanks to a rapid 63 runs scored between Hridoy and Liton at the fourth wicket. In the 12th over, Hridoy seemed unstoppable as he hit three consecutive sixes, two in the midwicket area and one over cover, off Sri Lanka captain Wanindu Hasaranga. But when Hridoy tried to sweep Hasaranga in the very next delivery, he was caught in front.

Prior to this, Bangladesh's bowlers were brilliant in keeping Sri Lanka to a modest total after they got off to a fast start in the Powerplay, scoring 53 for the loss of just two wickets. Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur, and young leggie Rishad, all pacers, claimed wickets at pivotal moments, preventing Sri Lanka from scoring more than 24 runs in
In his four overs, Taskin finished with two for 25, while Rishad delivered figures of three for 22. Among all, Mustafizur was the most frugal, conceding just 17 runs in his four overs.

Hridoy leaves after scoring 40 points off of 20.

After 5.2 overs, Bangladesh was down to three for 28, but Hridoy and Liton Das put up a fast-paced 63-run partnership at the fourth wicket to help Bangladesh dramatically tie the score.

Tigers forfeit openers and captain early
Bangladesh's problems in the top order persisted as the Tigers lost captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and both of the openers during the Powerplay of their T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka today at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

In just the third ball of the innings, Dhananjaya de Silva dismissed Soumya Sarkar for a two-ball duck. Then, in the following over, Nuwan Thushara struck Tanzid Tamim's stumps, leaving Bangladesh at two for six in 1.4 overs.

Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh, was the next to fall, unable to break free from his recent bad run of form. He miscuted a delivery from Thushara straight into the hands of Charith Asalanka, who did a fine job of holding onto the low ball.
Rishad and Fizz shine as the Tigers recover to limit Sri Lanka to 124.
In a T20 World Cup match at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas today, Bangladesh's bowlers did an amazing job of restricting Sri Lanka to a modest total of 124 for nine after their flying start. Young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain and ace left-arm paceman Mustafizur Rahman shone with the ball in hand.

In the fifteenth over, Rishad got rid of Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka in consecutive deliveries, which allowed the Tigers to take control of the innings. In the first ball of his subsequent over, Rishad caught another big fish when he pulled the right-handed hitter forward to have him stumped, Dhananjaya de Silva.
Playing in his first-ever World Cup match, 21-year-old Rishad finished with remarkable stats of three for 22 in four overs.

In the last delivery of the eighteenth over, Taskin, who was equally outstanding with the ball, made Dasun Shanaka his second victim of the day by getting the batter to edge one back to the keeper. Kusal Mendis was also removed by Taskin early, and he concluded with figures of two for 25 in four overs.

In the penultimate over, Mustafizur Rahman successfully concluded the innings by conceding just three runs and claiming the wicket of Maheesh Theekshana. In addition, he was the most economical, conceding just 17 runs in his four overs and taking three wickets overall as Sri Lanka only managed to score a

Bangladesh's bowlers stopped the run-scoring after Sri Lanka got off to a fast start in their Twenty20 World Cup match today at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
After 16 overs, Sri Lanka reached 109 for 5.
The Tigers made apologies for giving up a lot of boundaries in the first 10 overs when leg-spinner Rishad Hossain removed Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga in consecutive deliveries in the 15th over. Asalanka was caught at backward square leg trying to slog sweep, but Rishad's excellent delivery, which caused the batter's willow to veer, outdid Sri Lankan skipper Hasaranga and had him caught at slip.
Prior to that, the Lankans were unable to score runs as quickly as they had at the start of the innings when Mustafizur Rahman removed a dangerous-looking Pathum Nissanka in the ninth over. The hitter mistimed and skied a slower ball, and Rahman collected it at cover.
